Spring is drawing near and it’s getting ready for the Easter Bunny to hop into town. If you’ve got college students, teens, and tweens at home, they might not be itching to go visit the bunny at the mall. But that doesn’t mean they won’t love a sweet Easter basket stuffed full of treats and fun basket-sized gifts.
Even the most stoic of teens, who may grunt a “meh” when it comes to Easter baskets, will be delighted with a cute Easter basket. (Although they may only inwardly express that delight.) It’s still a fun way to brighten their day.
Yet what do you put in an Easter basket for teens? Easter basket ideas for young children seem easier. There are so many Easter-themed toys you can buy, from LEGO sets to race cars and Barbie dolls. Easter-themed everything is all the rage.
But for teens, there are some great ideas too! Here are fun Easter basket ideas for teens.
1 | Photo Clip Light String
Only $9 on Amazon, this is a fun gift for kids, teens, or adults. Clip pictures to LED lights that add instant ambiance to any space. They come with clips ready to hang favorite pictures, movie stubs, and other mementos.
If you’ve got access to your teen’s Instagram, you could surprise them by printing off some of their favorite pics of their friends and family. Show them that pics can exist in 3D outside of the digital world.
Along with the photos and photo clip light string, you can add in some small practical-yet-fun gifts like lip gloss, a new felt pen or art supply, T-shirt, or Dollar Store treasures. And don’t forget a sweet treat too, like Peeps, a chocolate bunny, or carrot shaped cone of orange jelly beans.
2 | Chocolate Game Controller
If you’ve got a teen who loves gaming and chocolate, you need this game controller. Only $17 on Etsy, a chocolate game controller just looks so cool it’s almost a pity to eat it.
In keeping with the gaming theme, what about a new game cartridge, controller, or mic? Or maybe a PlayStation gift card, Xbox gift card, or GameStop gift card.
3 | “Game of Phones”
This card game is for teens who have their phone glued to their hands. Use your phone to draw cards and compete with each other in funny and fast-paced digital scavenger hunts.
Shop Game of Phones on Amazon, Target, or Uncommon Goods.
Build off that Game of Phones theme with accessories for their phone. What about an extra phone case? A phone case that doubles as a wallet is super helpful – keep your debit card and license secure and always on you.
As women tend to break out smaller purses and handbags for the warm weather months, anything that can help you streamline and reduce your handbag-load is helpful.
4 | Bubble Bears
Who wouldn’t melt for these adorable, gummy bear shaped soaps? And they smell as sweet as they look. They come in amazing fragrances, like black raspberry vanilla or cranberry pear bellini or chocolate pretzel. Your teen will have to hide them well so that mom and dad, or the dog, won’t steal them.
Shop Bubble Bears soaps on Uncommon Goods or NectarUSA.com.
And you can keep building off the bear theme with bear socks, gummy bears, or a Bears baseball cap.
5 | Bake Your Own Pretzel
Who doesn’t love an ooey, gooey soft pretzel fresh out of the oven? Get a soft pretzel baking mix kit. Awaken your teen’s sense of culinary adventure. Get them the DIY pretzel kit today, maybe they’ll be inspired to cook dinner next week?
Find a DIY pretzel-baking kit on Amazon, AuntieAnnes.com, Baketivity, or Williams-Sonoma.
You can build off this baked pretzel trend with fun baking gear (measuring cups and spoons, an apron, pot holders, or chef’s cap).
6 | Flip-Flops
Sunny weather is sandal weather. And flip-flops or slides are a great gift: practical, popular, and inexpensive. Spend a couple bucks on plain black flip flops from Old Navy, or go fancier with slides from Nike to Birkenstock.
You can build a whole mani-pedi theme too, and including hydrating foot masks, cuticle oils, nail polish, nail clippers, and nail files. No one wants to greet spring in flip flops with crusty, dry skin and toes. And teenage boys care just as much as teenage girls about having presentable looking feet.
7 | Coffee Mug or Tumbler
Your teen may have a gazillion of these. Or not. Is there a missing piece to the puzzle? Do they have a regular size coffee mug that comes with a fitted lid to keep the drink hot? Do they have an insulated tumbler that’s actually machine washable? What about tall latte mugs?
Coffee mugs can really be such a fun gift that it’s work pursuing the idea. Find a unique style or design that fits their personality, like on Uncommon Goods or Etsy.
And build off the theme with a honey bear, tea bags, coffee beans and a French press, or a gift card to Starbucks or their favorite coffee shop.
8 | Earbuds
Earbuds are a fun, practical gift. You can go all fancy and get them a pair of wireless AirPods, but a regular pair of earbuds with a 1/8 inch audio jack is a great gift.
No matter how high tech we get, headphones with 1/8 inch audio jack always come in handy. There are many types of devices that only take earphones with this long, cylindrical shaped output. Airplane flights are a good example: if you want to watch a movie on that panel in front of you, you need a 1/8 inch audio jack hookup.
If you want to keep an audio or music theme going, other gifts to include might be a guitar pick, favorite album in vinyl, or gift card for Audible books.
9 | No-Show Socks
With warmer weather and lower cut tennis shoes, no-show socks are a perennial favorite. Lululemon has some fantastic no-show sock options where the socks actually stay in place and don’t slide down. And as an added bonus, that brand is super popular with teen guys and girls.
You can always get some fun quarter-length or knee-length options too in stylish, minimalist prints that have the Lululemon logo showing.
10 | Wad of Cash Stuffed in a Plastic Egg
Plastic egg optional, but it does give the gift a nice holiday touch. Who doesn’t love bright, fun colors?
While it can seem greedy or impersonal, everyone likes getting cash. And let’s face it: cash is useful. You can spend it anywhere. You can’t find a more versatile Easter basket stuffer. Especially for a cash-strapped student.
You could make it more fun by stuffing plastic eggs with nickels, dimes, quarters, and $1 bills. And then burying, or gently nestling the eggs, atop your basket filled with Easter grass.
And along with the cash, you can add other Easter basket stuffers like jelly beans, chocolate bunny or eggs, makeup, hair accessories, sun visor, sunglasses, or a hilarious game like Exploding Kittens or Game of Phones.
Final Thoughts on Build a Teen’s Easter Basket
We’ve shared some great Easter basket ideas for teens or college students, or their younger tween siblings. You’ve got all the ingredients you need to make a fun gift.
And remember: Easter basket shopping should be fun. It’s not about the perfect gift. If your teen loves M&M’s or another favorite candy, include that. If they’ve got a favorite store, include a small gift or gift card from that shop. An Easter Basket is all about the chance to create a little magic for a small moment in time. You may get more of an eye-roll than a smile. Some of the candy may stale. But for a moment in time, the Easter Bunny once again cast its spell in your house.
